The Welcome Page is the first page respondents see before they begin answering your survey or form.
Use it to introduce the survey, explain its purpose, provide important instructions, and tell respondents what to expect before they start. You can also include information such as the estimated completion time or how the collected data will be used.
If relevant, add an image or video to provide additional context or reinforce the purpose of the survey before respondents move on to the questions.
How to add a Welcome Page to your survey
Select the survey you want from My Surveys, or create a new survey.
Then:
- Go to the Create phase.
- Select Welcome Page from the available question types and elements.
- Click it to add it to the survey, or drag and drop it into the position you want.

How to customise the Welcome Page title
Enter the text you want to display in the title field.
You can also type @ to use Custom Variables defined in a custom survey link. This allows you to display values dynamically and personalise the Welcome Page for individual respondents.
For example, if a respondent's name or department has been included in the custom link, you can use that value in the title.
You can also align the title to the left, right, or centre, or use justified alignment.

What should you include in the Welcome Page description?
Use the description field for information or instructions respondents need before starting the survey.
For example, you can explain:
- The purpose of the survey.
- The estimated time needed to complete it.
- Whether some questions are optional or required.
- How the collected information will be used.
- Any instructions respondents should know before they begin.
If you mention confidentiality, anonymity, or how responses will be used, make sure the information accurately reflects how your survey is configured and how the data will actually be handled.
The description field also supports piping and defined variables, and you can adjust its text alignment.

How to add an image or video
Enable Image or Video when you want to include visual content on the Welcome Page.
Add an image
- Select Image.
- Click Upload.
- Choose the image from your device.
The image must be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format and no larger than 2 MB.
Use an image that supports the purpose of the survey and remains clear on both mobile and desktop.
Add a video
Select Video, then enter the video link in the video URL field.
Use a link that meets the requirements of the field and is accessible to respondents.

How to adjust the Welcome Page layout on mobile and desktop
After enabling Image or Video and adding an image, you can adjust how it appears separately on mobile and desktop.
Review both layouts before publishing to make sure:
- The title is fully visible.
- The description is easy to read.
- The image fits the available space.
- The start button remains clear and easy to access.
Adjusting each layout separately helps the Welcome Page work well across different screen sizes.

How to customize the start button
The start button moves respondents from the Welcome Page to the survey questions.
You can customise the text shown on the button, up to 80 characters.
Choose wording that makes the next step clear. Depending on the purpose of your survey or form, you might use:
- Start Survey
- Start Assessment
- Begin Registration
- Continue
Before publishing, preview the survey and click the button to make sure respondents move to the correct next step.
Before you publish the Welcome Page
Preview the Welcome Page before sharing your survey and review it on both mobile and desktop.
Make sure the title and description explain only what respondents need to know before starting, the visual content displays correctly, and the start button clearly indicates the next step.
If you have not created your survey yet, you can use the Porsline online survey builder or create a Porsline account to get started.
