Use a Link/Website question when respondents need to provide the address of a webpage or website as part of their response.
This could be a company website, an applicant's portfolio, a published project, or another URL you need to review after collecting responses.
For example, a job application might ask candidates to provide a link to their portfolio, while a business information form might collect each company's website address.
When you create an online form, use a Link/Website question whenever a URL needs to remain connected to the respondent's other submitted information.
How to add a Link/Website question
Open your survey or form from My Surveys and go to the Create phase.
Select Link/Website from the available question types, then click it to add the question or drag and drop it into the required position.
In Label, tell respondents exactly which URL you need.
Instead of:
Enter a link.
use something more specific, such as:
What is your company's website?
or:
Share a link to your portfolio.
or:
What is the URL of the page you'd like us to review?
A specific Label reduces the likelihood that respondents will submit a URL unrelated to what you need.
Use previous answers and Custom Variables
Type @ in the Label to insert an answer from a previous question or a Custom Variable.
For example, if respondents selected their project type earlier, a later question could say:
Share a link to your [@Project type] project.
Use previous answers or Custom Variables when they make the requested URL clearer or more relevant.
Tell respondents what kind of URL to provide
Use Description when respondents need additional guidance about the URL they should enter.
For example:
Label:
What is your company's website?
Description:
Enter the full website address, for example: https://example.com
For a creative job application:
Label:
Share a link to your portfolio.
Description:
You can provide your personal website or a page where we can review examples of your work.
You can also type @ in Description to insert a previous answer or a Custom Variable when it helps clarify the instruction.
If the Label already provides all the information respondents need, avoid repeating the same instruction in Description.
How to add an image or video
Enable Image or Video when visual context helps respondents understand which link you want them to provide.
Add an image
- Select Image.
- Click Choose.
- Select the file from your device.
Images can be JPG, PNG, or GIF and must be no larger than 2 MB.
For example, you could show a sample design and ask respondents to provide a link to a similar project they have completed.
Add a video
Select Video, then enter the relevant video link in the field provided.
How to adjust the layout on mobile and desktop
When you add an image, use Layout to control how it appears separately on:
- Mobile
- Desktop
If the visual contains information respondents need before answering, review both layouts before publishing.
How to make the question required or hide its number
Enable Required when providing the URL is necessary to complete the form.
For example, a portfolio link may be required when reviewing previous work is part of a job application. A company website may remain optional if some respondents do not have one.
Enable Hide question number when you do not want the question number displayed to respondents.
This changes only the presentation of the question and does not affect the submitted URL.
How to view and export Link/Website responses
Once responses start coming in, go to the Report phase and open the Results Table to review the URLs submitted by respondents.
Use Export when you need the responses in Excel or CSV format for further review or use outside Porsline.
Because URLs are not quantitative data, a Link/Website question does not generate a statistical chart. In the charts section, the question displays a message indicating that there is no quantitative data available for visualisation.
When should you use a Link/Website question?
Use Link/Website when respondents need to provide the address of a webpage, website, portfolio, published project, or another online resource.
If you need a brief written answer instead of a URL, use a Short Text question. If respondents need more space to provide an explanation or detailed comment, use a Long Text question.
